Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company (WVIC) has a rewarding opportunity for a Water Resources Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team that oversees and operates a network of 21 storage reservoirs containing 24 dams and more than 60 lakes that collectively comprise WVIC’s Wisconsin River Headwaters Project (WRHP) in the Central/Northern Wisconsin River Basin. WVIC is a private company chartered by the Wisconsin State Legislature in 1907 and the reservoir system is regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) under a license to operate from 1996 to 2035. WVIC intends to relicense the WRHP. We are looking to add a team member to assist with relicensing efforts and implement the operational parameters of a new 40-year license. 

The position will encompass a variety of water resources engineering responsibilities including designing, calibrating, implementing, and maintaining river and reservoir models for daily operations, seasonal planning, and other dam safety / compliance components of maintaining WVIC’s FERC license. 

Job Responsibilities:

Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses to evaluate precipitation and inflow forecasts, reservoir routing, drawdown rates, and downstream impacts.
Analyze inflow/outflow data, reservoir levels, river flows, precipitation amounts, and watershed conditions to support operational decisions and planning. 
Support implementation of the Delft-FEWS platform and MongoDB database for reservoir system operational decision-making and scenario planning.
Participate in field visits to inspect dams, storage reservoirs, and river systems, compile supporting data, instrumentation checks, and condition assessments.
Assist in planning and implementing capital improvement projects related to dams, reservoirs, and other infrastructure. 
Project management of contractors or engineering consultants working on water resource related items. 

Collaborate with internal operations staff and external partners to prepare reports, manage license requirements, and support dam safety documentation.

Research, recommend, and implement emerging technologies to assist with business needs. 


Job Qualifications:

B.S. or M.S. degree with 3 years of experience in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field with an emphasis in Water Resources. 

Experience and proficiency with computer modeling software applications: (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS (1D and 2D), XP-SWMM, Flo-2D, Flow-3D, HydroCAD, HEC-SSP, HEC-ResSim, Delft-FEWS, MongoDB database, RiverWare, MODSIM, LifeSim, ResJ, or WEAP).

Previous experience and proficiency with relational and spatial databases (SQLite, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, ArcGIS, Global Mapper).

Prior experience with open-source programming language a plus.

Must possess strong internal and external communication skills and be a technical writer proficient with standard Microsoft Office software.

Ability to perform outdoor duties in inclement weather and willingness to work additional hours as needed.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $60,000-$120,000. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of WVIC’s salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience, and qualification for the role. This position is also eligible for a discretionary bonus plan.
